catch the moment: week 9

This week’s theme or challenge for Catch the Moment 365 was to capture “a day in the life.” I decided to document our day on Sunday. You can see it HERE.  Linking up with Mindi at Stavish Stills Photography, Carrie at My Life, Our Journey, and Stephanie at Behind the Camera and Dreaming.  It’s never to late to join in or start your own 365.

057/365: Thursday, February 26th. This kid. This face. This is what he does now when I want to take his picture. I’ll say “no, Dexter. Smile.” And he’ll say “this is how I smile now.” UGH! And he’s not even a teenager. 02-26-2015

058/365: Friday, February 27th. I visited my friend Whitney and fell in love with her key wall. How come everyone else’s everything is cuter than all my everythings? I NEED A KEY WALL.02-27-2015

059/365: Saturday, February 28th. Goodbye to the last full month of winter and good riddance to you! Winter had been great until cold, snowy February showed up and we’re hoping the worst is over. Theo was just enjoying a little orange juice and PB cracker snack. This brown-eyed boy is about to be 5. I mean, I know how. But HOW??02-28-2015060/365: Sunday, March 1st. Hello March and hello to waking up to 8 new inches of snow. Ugh. We didn’t go anywhere Sunday but we caught up on playing games, cleaning, reading, cooking, eating, and all sorts of other cozy things. Dexter, AKA Mr. Cooperative, when I said “Dexter, show me your blue eyes.”03-01-2015

061/365: Monday, March 2nd. Theo is never far from the Lego collection that takes up a fourth of our living room. Not for very long anyway. 03-02-2015

062/365: Tuesday, March 3rd. And people wonder why I hate winter and snow so much. It looks pretty for a day and then it sits EVERYWHERE, looking like this until it’s finally warm enough to melt away.03-03-2015

063/365: Wednesday, March 4th. A little post-grocery-shopping trip reward for being so helpful at the store!03-04-2015That’s our week in a nutshell. I have been practicing yoga – trying to do a supported headstand without the wall and still going to group exercise classes a few days a week. I’m really enjoying the variety versus just running which was my go-to for the past 2 years. I feel like I am getting stronger and leaner, but I’m not really losing any weight to speak of. I’m okay with that.

Anyway, which photo is your favorite this week? I like the colors (and organization) in day 61’s photo. I also like Dexter’s silly face on day 60. His little baby teeth are so pretty and white!

a (snowy) day in the life

This week’s bonus challenge for my Catch the Moment 365 project was to capture “a day in the life.” I should probably do a work day, but that’d probably be even MORE boring than a typical weekend day in our lives. It was kind of easy to do the challenge today since we didn’t go anywhere due to the 8 inches of snow that got dumped on us overnight. BOO!

I did this challenge a year ago (HERE) and enjoyed looking back at it. Dexter especially looks so little!

MORNING.

Breakfast…breakfast…what should (can) I fix for breakfast?

aditl01

Coffee & crayons while waiting for breakfast.aditl02

Blueberry biscuits and chicken sausage.aditl03

Coloring…drawing…writing…always.aditl04

Fresh out of the bathtub with some suave looking hair.aditl05

“Dexter, show me your blue eyes.”aditl06

Lord Business. Legos…always Legos. aditl07

Folding laundry and running the vacuum.aditl08

Decorated a little bit for Easter/springtime.aditl09

Found something else to get us in a less snowy state of mind.aditl10

Dexter helped get the cookies ready to bake while I worked on chili for lunch.aditl11

Can’t forget the cheese and crackers.aditl12

Aftermath.aditl13

AFTERNOON.

Obsessed with letters and numbers.aditl14

More laundry…more folding and putting away.aditl15

Decorating some more for Easter with window decals.aditl16

Time for a little fitness. Ryan and I busted out some Jillian Michaels moves.aditl17

And the boys “watched a show” (jumped, wrestled, yelled, fought, laughed, etc) in our room while we did our 20 minute workout.aditl18

Random tortilla snack. aditl19

And back to coloring.aditl20

EVENING.

Sigh…so much snow. 8″ I think?aditl21

Dinner preppin’.aditl22

Dinner eatin’. Cubed steak & gravy, cheesy spirals, and asparagus. Mmm.aditl23

After dinner jammies and iPad time. More laundry.aditl24

More games, more laundry.aditl25

Lite Brite before bed. aditl26

And that takes us to about 8pm, which is when I started working on this post…don’t worry, you’re not going to miss much. I’m just gonna lay on the couch and watch TV for an hour or two then hit the hay.

This was fun to put together! I know I’ll appreciate seeing the small moments when I look back on this a year from now. Hope you enjoyed your day – and mine!

summer wrap up: 2014

High temps are predicted to reach only into the mid-60s this weekend, so the realization that summer is ending has become impossible to ignore or deny.  I always say that Spring is my favorite season because of the awesome weather and – oh yeah – my birthday, but truly it’s my favorite because it renews my spirit and gives me something to look forward to…Summer.  In the same vein, Fall is kind of my least favorite season.  I hate winter more than Fall for a lot of reasons but it’s hard for me to get wrapped up in pumpkin-mania and chunky sweaters when all I can think about is the fact that Summer is over and Winter is chomping at the bit to get it’s claws on me. My disgust for Fall and is something I have written about since 2010.  Nothing has changed.

I guess that’s not entirely true – what’s different this year is that we’ve had less than five 90 degree days and just as it finally started to FEEL like summer, it is ending.

Regardless…that’s not the point of this post. My intent was that this would be a happy kind of post. A reminder of how much fun we packed into this short, mild summer and how many firsts we experienced together as a family.  If I had made a Summer 2014 bucket list, I think just about everything would be checked off!
